Moral Story: The Beggar Without Legs Teaches Gratitude Lesson To A Boy

Once upon a time there was a kid, named Sahil. During his 13th birthday, he demanded a pair of branded shoe from his grandfather. His grand father being a retired person could not afford to buy the pair of shoes Sahil wanted.

He got Sahil an ordinary pair with the little money he could afford. Sahil , as usual was unhappy with this gift and started cursing his family and life every time he wore those shoes.

boy with old shoes

One day while coming back from school grumbling about his life, he noticed an old and feeble beggar eating a leftover bun very contently. What amazed Sahil the most is the fact that the beggar had only one leg.   He was shocked to think how on earth can someone be so content and peaceful without a leg, a home and a family! Immediately his attention went towards those shoes which he did not like.

He realized how foolish he was. He now understood, the value of those shoes and most importantly the value of little things in life which he always took for granted. This was the first practical lesson of gratitude he had learnt in his life!  He came back home and gave a warm hug to his grandfather.

There is a ‘Sahil’ inside each one of us

Just like Sahil, in real life too, many of us are not happy with our life. We curse our lives for the things we have not got- but fail to feel grateful for the things that we have got even without asking (like a disease free body, a job, good education, friends and family etc).

Start feeling grateful for little things from today. There are a number of scientifically proven benefits of gratitude

Moral of the Story:

We should stay content in life with the things we have-as life is too short to stay unhappy with what we don’t have  and to cry for what we cannot afford (See the benefits of staying happy). Sometimes we cry for the things that are not under our control. What we don’t understand is that- the things we have in life are dreams for many!

Our generation is influenced by media creators on Facebook, Instagram and so on. We feel empty seeing all the perfection in our virtual walls. However, most of the Instagram stories are not real.  2-3 minutes of reels cannot be a reflection of real life.

In social media, things appear glittery, but we should understand that all that glitters is not gold. On social media channels, you may not have millions of subscribers, followers and friends (like your youtuber neighbor) but in real life, if you have a few good friends whom you can count on during ups and downs of life, you should be grateful

In the real life the things are not black and white; they lie in the grey area. We have to face hurdles as well as celebrate success too.
