How Staying Connected With Nature Enhances Our Overall Wellbeing

Traveling, especially to spent some time in natural ambience is probably one of the best things you can do for your mind, body & soul.

Spontaneous travel plans may not be luxurious, but these often lead to beautiful unexplored destinations. These travel experiences leave you breathless and mesmerized. You wish you could live here forever, away from all the worries and just be happy.

But, what if you could live a life like that…? Imagine how incredible would it be to grow your own food, fetch clean fresh spring water and live in harmony with nature.

I was born and raised in a city! Which is why it is even more special for me to have the opportunity to live with nature and appreciate it even more… Being an asthmatic, I enjoy long walks, treks and extreme winters with minimum use of my inhaler. Wonderful isn’t it?

4 factual benefits of living/traveling in Nature

Living in the city has its own benefits, but at what cost? The point is not about the money you earn, the point is – Are you living enough? Are you using that money to enhance your experiences? Being in touch with nature has its own benefits. These are:

1. Rejuvenates your body

Even a few days away from the city brings about a visible improvement in our health. Those 3 nights and 2 days are not just for vacations, but to add a few extra days to your ‘life’. Taking a small break once in a while, even if you lose your pay for those days, is a much rather sensible investment.

Excuses like – I cannot take a leave from work, my kids can’t miss school, I need permission to travel, will all seem in vain few years down the line. When we are only left with the memories of being stuck in traffic, being late to work and getting yelled at for it.

The world wouldn’t seize to exist if you miss a few days of work, but you will if you don’t give your body a break! You don’t need to take my word for it, you can always try it for yourself.

I for one, can testify that being asthmatic can take a toll on your daily life and activities. And since I decided to move to the mountains, I couldn’t ask for anything more.

Not everybody can be a nomad! I agree, it is not easy for everyone to leave behind everything and move to a new place. And you don’t need to. All you need to do manage a break from your monotonous life in order to take care of your health and experience the healing power of nature. Living with nature, makes you appreciate the small things and makes you more grateful to this life.

2. And the mind too

Our brain is the only part of our body that never truly rests or sleeps. And what do you reckon happens when you don’t rest? All our daily tasks, important decisions, projects, where does this functionality come from? How are we able to wake up everyday and work till evening?

Our mind needs to rest. It needs to reset itself, so that we can function better. Life is not easy, and we are too busy to stop for the little things. You don’t need to meditate or go in silence (which is not a bad idea either) to boost your mind. A few days away from all kinds of pollution, with good nights’ rest and healthy food is the beginning to a health state of mind.

Often we find ourselves irritated, angry, sad or confused even for the simplest of things. These are the signals our body sends us, to let us know that it’s time’ its time for a break!

Your body and mind communicates with you and let’s you know its tired and needs to rest. A short escape to the beach or in the mountains instead of spending the weekend in a bar or a pub, can do wonders for you.

3. Refines Relationships

Distance makes the heart grow fonder; which is true in most cases.

Traveling in any form – work or pleasure, solo or in a group, is always an opportunity. You have been presented with the opportunity to get up from one place to go discover another. You are free to explore and build new relationships.

You have the opportunity to miss your loved ones which makes you realize the importance of these people in your life. After traveling even for a week, you tend to miss home. You miss your bed, home food, the comfort of home delivery, which is actually a good thing. Good in the sense that missing something or someone makes you appreciate it even more.

Distance from the daily rut, opens your mind to new ideas. You are willing to take risks and explore the unexplored. When your mind is not busy dealing with daily routine, it gets the time to appreciate beauty of bonds and relationships.

4. A treat to the soul

Traveling is underrated despite many of us traveling, as we fail to capture the true reason of moving from one place to another.

Why do we feel the need to be in a new place? Why do we crave to go back to our favorite destination? Traveling sneaks up on us in ways we can hardly unravel. When we see things, when we meet new people and engage in conversation, we feel connected. We realize how everyone has their own struggle, their own lives and we are just a tiny particle in this massive world.

Travel experiences may vary depending on the mode of travel: either luxury or economic; nevertheless there will always be an experience. These experiences speak to our soul in ways we cannot imagine, they make us see the world from an entirely new perspective.

Not all my travel experiences were happy and safe, but the ones that were, will be with me forever. I had the pleasure of making some extra ordinary friends, who have seen their share of struggle, which has made them understand and accept me.

I was blessed to share most of my time with them and talk about things that were alien to this world. We all had one thing in common, we were all filled in the crazy cabinet! Which made us bond even more…

Your over all well being is affected by traveling. Even if you are traveling in the most luxurious way possible, you are still out of your comfort zone. You will always be in a new place, with new people and new languages; which also means, you will always have the opportunity to learn and grow…
