1. Spicy business

The first thing that comes to one’s mind when it comes to a spicy dish is to pair it with a full-bodied alcoholic wine, which is actually really off.

In your mind, the flavors might work but it will just end up leaving a burnt aftertaste in your mouth. The best pick when it comes to spicy food would be a sweet aromatic white wine.

2. Try out the wine before you go for it

You can never judge which wine will go best with what food until and unless you individually know their flavors. It is always a good idea to taste some wine in a small glass so that you can truly understand its flavors.

Let the wine settle in the mouth long enough so that you can enjoy the minutest detail. Then, try it with the food you wish to pair it with to gauge how the flavors change or if the taste gets better.

3. Know your ingredients

More often than not, it is the ingredients of the sauce that you use in your dish that end up causing a mismatch between flavors.

If the sauce you are using has a tangy tinge to it then picking a sweet wine will ruin the flavor of the sauce.

Now if you want to pair a wine with desserts then always go for a mild wine with fewer flavors that do not overtake the sweetness of your dish.

Quick tip: Fruit tarts with almond champagne are the best combination ever!!

4. Simplicity is the key

It is best to not opt for a complicated food pairing wherein your dish already has a plethora of flavors and you want a wine to complement them all. That rarely happens!

You must keep an open mind and try and experiment before you zero down on a bottle of wine. Know your flavors and your wine.

We would suggest that you start with the food and then go on to the wine that matches and not vice versa. This is a very good way to understand flavors and be a good judge if you are a wine lover who also likes good food along with it.

It’s always good to have some curiosity and passion if you wanna get down to some experimenting and figure out the perfect food and wine pairing for your palate.

5. Cheese

Pairing wine and cheese is like a marriage in itself and the most common mistake people make when pairing wine with cheese is to just blindly go for red wine.

Most people have this notion that red wine and cheese is the perfect match but in reality, most cheeses don’t taste great with reds.

You must explore white, sparkling and orange fusions. If the cheese is fatty then pick a wine that has some sharpness that can cut through the fat, like a white or tannins in reds.

Whereas, if the cheese is savory then go for a more balanced and rounded wine.

A quick tip: Blue cheese goes incredibly well with high alcohol, sweet wine!

6. Opposites attract

It is the general rule of thumb to pair wine and food with contrasting flavors and not similar flavors so that they complement each other and make the perfect balance in your mouth.

Pairing similar flavors just make the meal uncomfortable rather than bringing out the respective flavor’s real element.

You must always pair the lesser alcoholic wines with spicy dishes or else the alcohol will just aggravate the heat of the dish and make it a not so enjoyable experience.

Acidic wines should be the ideal go to when you’re having a fatty dish made with red meats.

When it comes to salty foods like noodles you must pick a Rose wine as it tones down the other flavors and creates a wholesome balance in your mouth.

Before we close we would also like to address all the people who aren’t wine lovers because everyone deserves to enjoy while on a road trip.

If vodka is your poison then this exquisite bottle of viniq will not disappoint you, but if whiskey is your thing then a fine breckenridge bourbon bottle should be your go to.

The best part is that these liquors have very diverse flavors that go well with every other food, even if it’s a slice of pizza!!

Last but definitely not the least

Life is once!  Please do not drink and drive. Hire a driver if you’re road tripping or enjoy your drinks after the drive is over and most importantly, HAVE FUN!!
